Latro Studio is the one-person design studio of Jesse van Ginkel, an industrial product designer from Holten. Every piece is designed, 3D-printed and finished by hand, starting with a chess set that is just as happy on your wall as on your table.

Hi, I'm Jesse. In 2026 I graduated as an industrial product designer from Saxion University of Applied Sciences. For years I had designed to other people's briefs: specifications, deadlines, someone else's product. Once my diploma was in my hands, I wanted to find out what I would make if the brief were entirely my own.
That question became Latro Studio. I gave myself a creative challenge: design objects for the home that are useful, quietly beautiful and made from start to finish by me, from the first sketch and CAD model to printing, finishing and packing every order myself.
The name goes back to the same idea. Long before chess reached Europe, Roman soldiers played Ludus Latrunculorum, the "game of the little soldiers": a board game of pure strategy, where a single piece is lost not by luck but by being outmanoeuvred. Its pieces were called latrones. Latro carries that story without literally saying "chess", leaving room for whatever this studio makes next.

The way the chess set hangs on the wall was conceived by the founder of Lumis Designs Co., a Dutch studio for modular 3D-printed home and wall systems. His idea is what lets a game stay on the wall mid-move, with every piece held in place, and be taken down to play whenever you like. We're grateful for the collaboration and proud to carry it in our first piece.

Yes. Every piece has a magnet in its base and every square has one underneath, so the pieces stay put even when the board hangs vertically. You can leave a game on the wall halfway through and pick it up again later.
The storage tray hangs on the wall and the board sits on top of it. When you want to play at the table, lift the board off and lay it down, or close the board over the tray to take the whole set with you.
The wave-shaped board, all 32 pieces, the storage tray with a compartment for every piece, and the sliding turn indicator that shows whose move it is. The board measures about 22 × 22 cm.
Five: Olive, Espresso, Mocha, Navy and Charcoal, each paired with Bone White. You can preview every colour in 3D on the product page.
Matte PLA, a plant-based bioplastic, printed layer by layer and finished by hand. Because of that you may see fine layer lines in the surface; they're part of how each piece is made.
Wipe it with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid hot water, the dishwasher and long periods in direct sunlight or heat (such as on a radiator or in a hot car), as PLA can soften at high temperatures.
The pieces contain small magnets. Keep the set out of reach of young children and don't let them put pieces in their mouth.
Every set is printed to order. Expect it to ship within 5–7 business days, unless the product page says otherwise.
Through Mollie, with iDEAL, credit card and more. All prices are in euros. Latro Studio uses the Dutch small business scheme (KOR), so no VAT is charged. Shipping within the Netherlands and Belgium is free.
Yes, you can cancel within 14 days of receiving your order without giving a reason. Use the cancellation form. Pieces made specifically to your wishes through a Custom Request are excluded.
Definitely. A different colour combination, your own design or a one-off piece: send it through the Custom Request form and we'll get back to you.

These terms apply to every offer by Latro Studio and to every agreement concluded through this website between Latro Studio and a customer. Before you place an order you can read and save these terms on this page; on request we email them to you free of charge. If you buy as a consumer, nothing in these terms limits the rights you have under mandatory consumer law.
Product photos and 3D views show the products as accurately as possible. Because every piece is 3D-printed and finished by hand, small differences in colour and fine layer lines are part of the product and are not a defect. Obvious mistakes in an offer (such as an incorrect price) do not bind us. The agreement is concluded when you complete your order with the button "Order with obligation to pay" and your payment has been received. You will receive a confirmation of your order by email.
All prices are in euros. Latro Studio uses the Dutch small business scheme for VAT (kleineondernemersregeling, KOR), so no VAT is charged and none is shown on your invoice. Shipping within the Netherlands and Belgium is free; the total amount is shown before you pay. Payment is processed by Mollie B.V. and is possible with iDEAL, Bancontact, credit card, PayPal and Apple Pay. We start production once the payment has been received.
We currently deliver to addresses in the Netherlands and Belgium. Every product is printed to order and ships within 5–7 business days after payment, unless the product page states otherwise. If delivery takes longer than 30 days, we let you know and you may cancel the order free of charge; we then refund the amount paid within 14 days. The risk of loss or damage passes to you when the parcel is delivered to you.
As a consumer you may cancel your purchase within 14 days without giving a reason. This period starts on the day after you (or someone you designate) receive the product. To cancel, let us know within that period by email to latrostudio@gmail.com, through the cancellation form, or with the model form below.
Send the product back within 14 days after notifying us, complete and in its original packaging if possible. We reimburse the cost of returning it (free returns). During the withdrawal period, please handle the product carefully: you may inspect it as you would in a shop, but you are liable for any loss in value caused by handling it beyond that. We refund everything you paid, including the original delivery costs, within 14 days of receiving your cancellation, using the same payment method. We may wait to refund until we have received the product back or you have shown that you have sent it.
The right of withdrawal does not apply to products made to your specifications, such as pieces made through a Custom Request with your own design, size or colour combination.

We guarantee that our products meet the agreement and the specifications on the product page, and that they are fit for normal use. This does not affect your statutory rights (conformity): if a product is defective, you are entitled to repair or replacement, or if that is not reasonable, a price reduction or refund. Please report a defect to us within 2 months of discovering it. Damage caused by improper use, such as exposure to high heat, the dishwasher or direct sunlight for long periods, is not covered.
Not happy with something? Email latrostudio@gmail.com with your order number and, if possible, a photo. We confirm your complaint within 2 business days and aim to resolve it within 14 days. If we cannot solve it together, you may submit the dispute to the competent court.
The pieces and board contain small magnets. Keep the product away from young children and pets, and away from pacemakers and other medical implants.
Dutch law applies to all agreements with Latro Studio. If you live in another EU country, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence.

Orders: name, email address, delivery address and order details, to process, deliver and invoice your order and to handle returns and complaints (legal basis: performance of the agreement and our legal obligations, such as tax record keeping).
Payments: payments are handled by Mollie B.V. (Amsterdam). Mollie processes your payment details; we never see or store your bank or card details.
Emails and Custom Requests: when you email us or use the Custom Request or cancellation form (which opens your own email app), we receive your name, email address and message, to answer you (legal basis: your request and our legitimate interest in answering it).
Website: our hosting provider automatically processes technical data such as your IP address and browser type in server logs, to deliver the website and keep it secure (legitimate interest).
We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking, we do not send newsletters, and we never sell your data.
Only with parties needed to run the shop: Vercel Inc. (website hosting), Mollie B.V. (payments), Resend (sending order confirmation emails), our email provider and the parcel carrier that delivers your order. Vercel and Resend are based in the United States; transfers are covered by the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. All other data stays within the EU.
This website stores two things in your browser's local storage: the contents of your cart and the fact that you closed the notice about this. That is strictly necessary for the website to work, so no consent is required. We use no tracking cookies. All fonts and code are served from our own website, without third-party requests.
Order and invoice data: 7 years, as required by Dutch tax law. Emails, Custom Requests and complaints: up to 2 years after our last contact, unless they become part of an order. Server logs: kept by our hosting provider for a short period only.
You may ask us to access, correct, delete or transfer your data, to restrict its use, or object to it. Email latrostudio@gmail.com; we respond within one month. If you think we handle your data incorrectly, you can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).
The website runs over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection and payments are processed by Mollie, a licensed payment institution. Access to order data is limited to the owner of Latro Studio.
You have the right to cancel your order within 14 days of receiving it, without giving a reason. Fill in the form below: it opens your email app with your cancellation ready to send to latrostudio@gmail.com. We confirm receipt by email as soon as possible, at the latest within 2 business days. You may also use the model withdrawal form or simply send us an email.
